General information

Founded by Pope Boniface VIII in 1303, the first name of the university was Studium Urbis, and the current name of the university is Sapienza, which means wisdom. The Sapienza University of Rome, one of the most respected universities in Italy, includes 58 departments, 11 faculties, more than 275 programs, 54 libraries (4 of which have 24-hour reading rooms), and 18 museums. Medical Education at the Sapienza University of Rome

The Faculty of Medicine of the Rome University of La Sapienza offers a highly disciplined and detailed education. The current medical education at the university is not only about examining patients. It adopts a very disciplined system, especially in matters such as the compulsory attendance of classes on time. Also, knowledge of such subjects as mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology is considered a very important rule. Therefore, students in the first year of study have to pass exams on these subjects.
