University of Naples Federico II, founded in 1224, is one of the oldest universities in Italian history. The university, which was opened by Frederick II Hohenstaufen, Holy Roman Emperor in 1224, is one of the important cornerstones of the history of European education. At the same time, the University of Naples Federico II is the first state-funded educational institution in Europe.

The university has about 86,000 students and 2,532 teachers.
