General information

The University of Ferrara is one of the oldest universities in Italy, founded in 1391 by Alberto (V) d'Este IX. WITH

In the 15th and 16th centuries, it developed into one of the most prominent landmarks of the city and of the culture of the Italian Renaissance. During these centuries, which are considered the golden age of the city and the university, the astronomer Copernicus and the founder of modern medicine, Dr. Paracelsus, also worked at the University of Ferrara.

A unique urban layout that harmoniously blends the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, making it the first modern city in Europe. It is thanks to this feature that it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Moreover, the first European Bureau of Constitutional Law was established here in 1797.

Research activities and collaboration

Since 2000, the University of Ferrara, in collaboration with Chinese universities in Guangdong, has been conducting research and experiments in the most industrial region of China, with the faculties of economics, architecture, medicine, law, and engineering. Although there is an active collaboration between the Faculty of Economics of the University of Ferrara and the South China University of Technology, the Guangdong Industry Research Project allowed Ferrara Medical School to open a permanent office at the Metropolitan University of Health Sciences in Beijing in 2006.

Other joint projects include the restoration of the central part of the historic city of Jerusalem and the pylon reliefs on behalf of UNESCO, thanks to an agreement with the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and the Palestinian Al-Qud University in Jerusalem. This includes analyzes at the Luxor Temple and the Montezuma Temple in Mexico City Square. UNIFE is also involved in important archaeological sites around the world.

The University of Ferrara is located in Ferrara, in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, after which the university is named.
