General information

The University of Modena or University of Modena and Reggio Emilia one of the oldest universities in Italy and the world was founded in 1175 and is considered one of the best universities in Italy for teaching and research. It has more than 21,000 students, including 2,000 foreign students and 4,000 postgraduate students.

The university is located in the heart of one of the richest and fastest-growing regions in Europe, world-renowned for the manufacture of mechanical parts, engines, sports cars (such as Ferrari and Maserati), as well as the agri-food sector, ceramic tiles, and manufacturing. Location of the University of Modena?

The university is ideally located between the east and west coasts of Italy on the Mediterranean Sea, between the Apennines and the Dolomites. Moreover, it is surrounded by other world-famous cities of art and culture. Parma, Verona, Mantua, Padua, and Bologna can be reached in less than an hour, and Florence, Venice, and Milan in less than two hours. Rome can be reached in three and a half hours by train. Both cities are close to major motorways and trains, and Bologna International Airport is just 40 minutes away.

Located in the heart of the Emilia-Romagna region, the cities of Modena and Reggio Emilia are an important link between Northern and Southern Italy, as well as between Italy and the rest of Europe. The distance between the cities is only 19 km, you can go by train every half hour.

Modena

Modena, with a population of 180,000, is a city where you can enjoy good music, quality food, and good life. You can be sure that you will often see Ferrari and Maserati cars on the roads of Modena and its surroundings, as these two legendary car manufacturers are headquartered here.

The rich calendar of cultural events held annually in Modena includes the prestigious Philosophical Festival, which attracts tens of thousands of people. Modena also has tortellini, zampon, Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, Lambrusco wines and traditional balsamic vinegar. There are many restaurants in the area, from those mentioned in the most prestigious guidebooks.

Reggio Emilia

The population of Reggio Emilia is 164,000, and the entire province is about 510,000. It is a medium-sized city by Italian standards, especially after the recent restructuring of its historic center, it has become more pleasant to visit and excursions. Thanks to the wide roads and parks of Reggio Emilia, it is very convenient and easy to walk, cycle, enjoy nature and fresh air. Reggio Emilia has three theaters offering world-class opera, concert, and drama performances. The city also has a large library, museum, gallery, and cultural center, especially for young people. Today Reggio Emilia is home to many ethnic groups and 11.4% of its population is foreign. It also gave birth to the world-famous educational approach of Reggio Emilia. According to this philosophy or system of thought, it is a service to identify and guide children in which work or professions may have greater potential based on their abilities.

Campus life at the University of Modena

The University of Modena is located in two cities with the highest living standards in Italy. Both Modena and Reggio Emilia are considered important cities of art and culture, and the cathedral and main square of Modena are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The university offers a modern and efficient university language center, where intensive and comprehensive Italian language courses are offered free of charge to all foreign students.

All students studying at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia are eligible for special monthly passes and reduced fares for public transport with no route or time restrictions. Modena and Reggio Emilia have an efficient public transport network for the city and the region. Moreover to buses, Modena and Reggio Emilia have made cycling easier with extended cycle paths.

Accommodation

If you are taught at the University of Modena or Reggio Emilia, you can take advantage of the comfortable and affordable hostels offered by the university. To live in university dorms, you must be a foreigner, a university student, and meet certain financial and academic requirements. Moreover, hostels reserved for students coming from outside the local area, which are listed on the eligible list, published annually in July, are ranked based on parameters related to student needs and success. Eligible students can get housing for Euros 50-80 cheaper than regular students.

Dorm prices range from 155 to 255 Euros depending on options such as apartments for 1-5 people, en suite rooms, apartments with shared bathrooms, single and double rooms, and a kitchen.
