General information

The University of Trieste is a public university located in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, founded in 1924 with about 16,000 students, and has campuses in the cities of Gorizia, Pordenone, and Portugal, in addition to the main campus.

Trieste's idea of ​​creating a university was first documented in the 1800s when the city's port was built. The creation of a university was on the agenda to meet the volume of the city's trade, as well as the education and training needs of citizens. But this only happened in 1877, when a vocational and technical high school was founded under the name Scuola Superiore di Commercio. In 1920, the name of the school was changed to the Institute for Business Studies, and in 1924 as the University of Economics and Business, but was later changed to Regia Università Degli Studi (Queen's University). II. In the years following World War II, the university continued its educational life at various faculties.

Finally, the University of Trieste, which undertook reforms from 2010 to 2012, reorganized the structure of the university and removed faculties and instead opted for a department-based system with specific mandates for both teaching and research.

The University of Trieste is located in Trieste, the capital of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, with a population of over 200,000. You can enter Slovenia in just 15 minutes by car or in 45 minutes outside the Croatian border. The main campus of the University of Trieste is located in Europe Square 1 on Scogletto hill. In addition, some departments such as the Department of Geological Sciences, Department of Earth Sciences, Department of Humanities, Department of Medicine and Surgery are scattered in other parts of the city. One of the nearby villages of Grignano houses the Faculty of Theoretical Physics and the International Center for Theoretical Physics. Another nearby settlement, Basovizza, has a Department of Astronomy and two astronomical observatories in Trieste.

Other campuses have been opened in Gorizio (1989), Pordenone (1991), and Portugueseruaro (1997).

Tuition fee

The University of Trieste calculates tuition fees in proportion to family income. Those who live in Italy pay between 0 and 2,567 Euros per year depending on the difference in income, while those who live abroad pay an annual tuition fee of 300 Euros. Accommodation

The University of Trieste has 3 residence halls on campus. Students from other cities have a variety of accommodation options in Trieste. You can apply not only to the university hostel but also to other university hostels, as well as some government hostels that offer student accommodation. In addition, the student dormitories are quite extensive, thanks to the reconstruction of the former Military Hospital, a building built in 1863 during the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
