General information

In 1986, Polimoda was founded as the International Fashion Polytechnic University as a result of an agreement between two international fashion centers and two industry pioneers. Shirley Goodman, former FIT New York Executive Vice President and Executive Director of the Fashion Industry Education Foundation, and Don Emilio Pucci, Marchese di Barsento and founder of renowned Florentine brand Emilio Pucci, come together to create a center for high-quality fashion education to serve both the city and the global industry. In the same year, the first classes were held at Villa Strozzi in the center of Florence, and since then the Institute has only grown in strength and influence.

A second knitting and textiles campus opened in Prato in 1992, and later in 2000, a third design office was opened on Via Baldovinetti. By combining these two goals in one space, the Polimoda Design Lab took root in its current location in Scandicci in 2015.

Massimiliano Giornetti, former creative director of Salvatore Ferragamo and head of Polimoda's clothing design department, has been named the new director in 2021. He is a graduate of Polimoda Fashion Design and believes in the internationality of the school, the connection with the city of Florence, and the development of relationships with the most important companies in the sector.
